Road Names

The names for the roads in Glen Hay were chosen for historical significance or legend:

Hay Crest:  The crest of the Hay family is featured on the Glen Hay entrance gate.   Our highest elevation road is named Hay Crest.

Braemar Way:  Just completed, this is the last road to be built in Glen Hay. A brae is a slope or hillside; Braemar is a village in the highlands of Scotland.

Falconstone Ridge:  In 980, the Hay family, for their bravery in the Battle of Luncarty, were awarded as much land as a falcon could fly over before landing.  The falcon landed on a stone, which even today is called "The Falcon Stone".

Viewforth Place:  Mr. Neil C. Hay, former owner of the Glen Hay land, lived at 49 Viewforth Place in Edinburgh, Scotland before emigrating to the United States in 1906.

Slain's Cove: This road is named for Slain's Castle, owned by the Hays in Scotland.  Bram Stoker, upon visiting there, featured it in his novel, Dracula.

Old Faber Road:  Faber Road partially remains even after the dam was built and flooded much of the area. The Fabers were neighbors of the Hays, and both had land which now lies under the lake.

Highlander Road:  In Scottish terms, living in Edinburgh made Neil Hay a Lowlander.  That notwithstanding, the steepness of the Glen Hay terrain led us to name the main road Highlander.
